Mantras to purify the house

Reciting a mantra to purify one's home is a thousand-year-old practice inherited from the Vedic tradition in India. For more than 3,000 years, these sacred formulas, made of sounds, words or phrases, have been repeated or chanted to act on the spiritual , energetic and psychological levels.
The term "mantra" comes from the Sanskrit man (mind, thought) and tra (tool, instrument). Literally, a mantra is therefore a "tool of the mind". Through their sound vibration, they soothe the mind, dissipate stagnant energies and harmonize the living space , spreading serenity and balance.
Discover how to incorporate mantras into a home purification ritual with HOZHO, creator of energetic scented treatments for the home, body, and soul.
Steps to Practice a Purification Mantra
-
Ventilate your home
Why ventilate your home?
Air quality influences our mental and biological state. Outdoors, the average concentration of carbon dioxide ( CO₂ ) varies around 400 ppm (parts per million). Indoors, it can exceed 1,000 ppm in poorly ventilated rooms.
This indoor pollution reduces alertness, increases fatigue and impairs cognitive performance¹.
Ventilating your home also helps eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by paints, furniture, and household products. It also helps reduce humidity, which promotes the growth of mold and bacteria².
On a psychological level, airing out your home provides an immediate feeling of freshness and mental clarity and brings greater vitality to the occupants.
On a spiritual and energetic level, airing regenerates spaces. In Chinese tradition, it facilitates the circulation of qi , the vital force that animates everything.
In Indian tradition, it supports prana , the vital breath present in every breath. By letting in fresh air, stagnant energies are dissipated to restore the place's natural vitality.
This renewal also creates a favorable condition for spiritual work . The space becomes clearer, more receptive, which allows the premises to be prepared for the recitation of purification mantras .
How to purify the air?
Every day, open your windows wide to let fresh air into your home. This gesture, repeated morning and evening, begins the energy harmonization ritual and brings a real breath of fresh air to your home.
If possible, create a cross-flow of air by opening two windows or doors opposite each other. The air circulation carries away stagnant particles, revitalizes the atmosphere, and prepares the space for higher vibrations.

Tidy up and clean your coins
Why put your home in order?
Clutter influences and reflects our mental load. It is often one of the first symptoms observed in a person suffering from depression: piles of dishes and objects reduce movement and end up taking over the space.
This leads to a vicious cycle, as clutter stimulates the production of cortisol (the stress hormone) and fuels mental confusion.3
It is therefore undeniable that a tidy space creates a peaceful mind and gives the feeling of regaining control of one's daily life.
Regular cleaning reduces dust, a source of mites and allergens, limits the proliferation of bacteria and prevents the development of mold 4.
From an energetic point of view, this allows you to free up spaces and establish a vibrational fluidity . Each object in fact retains an energetic imprint. By getting rid of the superfluous, you free up space so that energy can circulate freely .
Tidying and cleanliness are therefore pillars of feng shui and, more broadly, of many energy traditions.
A purified space encourages the reception of new vibrations, prepares the house for the recitation of purification mantras and raises its vibratory rate .
How to clean your spaces?
A cluttered interior weighs down both the visual space and the mind.
Mindful decluttering involves keeping only what has real use or emotional value. To achieve this, ask yourself these questions:
- Do I still need this item?
- Does it bring me joy or positive energy?
- Have I used this item in the past year?
If the answer is no, it's probably a sign that it's time to part ways.
When you're hesitant to throw things away, there are several alternatives: storing them in a cellar, garage or storage room, giving them to a loved one, donating them to a charity or recycling them.
The important thing is to free the house from what is unnecessarily occupying space, in order to create the conditions conducive to an energetic cleansing of the home .
For maintenance, choose natural products such as black soap, white vinegar, or baking soda. These ecological solutions are respectful of health and the environment while being extremely effective against dirt.
By purifying your home in this way, you help to lighten the atmosphere and prepare your spaces to welcome the purification mantras .

Diffuse a purifying energetic fragrance
Why use a scented energy treatment?
Natural energetic fragrances act on the vibrations of the home, on our own energies, and exert measurable effects on the biological and psychological level.
At the biological level, aromatherapy and olfactotherapy are based on mechanisms that are now well documented. Plants contain active molecules that act both through the respiratory system and through olfactory stimulation. When their essences are diffused or inhaled, these compounds penetrate the body and exert a measurable effect.
Sage , thyme and rosemary , rich in essential oils , help to limit the proliferation of bacteria and fungi. They thus help to purify the air and support natural defenses.
Fir and juniper , with their resinous and terpenic compounds, clear the airways and facilitate deep breathing, which improves oxygenation and brings an immediate feeling of clarity.
These scents influence the autonomic nervous system via the olfactory bulb which is linked to the brain areas responsible for memory and emotions .
Some essences, such as lavender or chamomile , induce deep relaxation and lower stress levels. Others, such as lemon or rosemary , stimulate attention, revive energy and restore tone.
Thus, plants act simultaneously on physiological, respiratory and emotional balance, connecting the dimensions of body, breath and mind.
This is why an energetic natural fragrance can instantly bring you back to a previously experienced sensation, a place, an atmosphere, or an inner state. Olfactotherapy uses these scents as levers to restore serenity, support emotional balance, and promote well-being.
Certain plants are particularly sought after for their energetic properties . Used in candles, diffusers, sprays, incense or fumigation, they help to dissipate negative charges , attract good vibes , purify or enliven a space .
Their presence restores a clearer and more welcoming climate, conducive to harmony and openness .
In energy theories, the home is seen as a living being that evolves in time with the energies that flow through it. It is no longer just a physical space, but rather a unique energy field .
How to use a purifying perfume?
At HOZHO, we have created a Purifying Range made from a traditional maceration of more than thirty plants with exceptional energetic properties. A true treatment for the home, it is available as an energy diffuser , an energy candle and an energy spray .

Recite the mantra to purify the house
Why recite a home protection mantra?
On a spiritual and energetic level, reciting a mantra helps anchor an intention .
The vibration of sound repeated aloud or internally changes the energy of spaces and opens them to positive waves . It also strengthens the spiritual protection of the home and establishes more serenity and peace.
Physiologically, reciting or chanting a mantra is accompanied by a slowing of the heart rate and a state of nervous relaxation.
The sound and vibration of the voice stimulate the vagus nerve , which causes a decrease in heart rate, muscle relaxation, and overall relaxation of the nervous system.
On the psychological side, there is an increase in concentration and a decrease in anxiety. Reciting a mantra focuses the mind, drives away stray thoughts, and reduces anxiety.
Repetition creates a form of active meditation that brings calm, clarity, and centering. The mantra can become a mental cue to reinforce a sense of security in one's home .
How to recite a mantra?
The choice of a mantra is always made in connection with the intention.
The ritual is performed in a quiet moment. You sit comfortably, take a few deep breaths, and then let the mantra unfold, either aloud or inwardly.
Whether it is an ancient Sanskrit verse or a personal affirmation , recitation works on many levels; it focuses attention, purifies the mind, and helps harmonize the energy of the space.

Relax until the ritual is complete
Why relax after a purification ritual?
A mantra purification ritual induces a state of deep relaxation. Extending this time can reduce muscle tension, soothe the nervous system, and improve sleep quality.
Conscious relaxation also promotes a sense of serenity and clarity. This phase acts as the closing of a cycle: the ritual rebalances the environment , and rest allows you to fully integrate its effects.
On an energetic level, this pause allows the vibrations of the mantra to settle in the body as well as in the habitat. It is a phase of energetic integration , where positive energies stabilize and where the ritual finds its accomplishment.
How to benefit from the calming effects of purification mantras?
It is recommended to mark an integration phase immediately after the recitation. This step can take different forms depending on the sensitivity of each person:
- Lie down : relaxing the posture allows the body to dissipate accumulated tension and regain a state of balance conducive to energy circulation.
- Listen to soft music : sacred chants, Tibetan bowls or meditative sounds prolong the vibratory effect of the mantra and promote deep relaxation.
- Meditate : Sitting in silence, centered on the breath, helps anchor the effects of the ritual and stabilize the mind.
- Practice yoga : a few gentle postures, like those of yin yoga, facilitate relaxation and accompany inner calm.
- Keep a gratitude journal : Writing down three positive things from the day helps establish a positive mindset and amplify the psychological effect of the mantra.
- Devoting yourself to a creative activity : drawing, painting, embroidery or calligraphy allows you to channel the energy of the ritual and express it in a tangible form.
- Read an inspiring book : a few pages of a spiritual, philosophical or poetic text prolong the state of concentration and inner peace.
- Caring for plants : According to a Japanese method, gently cleaning the leaves with a damp cloth is a meditative way to purify the space and strengthen the connection with nature.
What is a purification mantra?
The first mentions appear in the Vedas , sacred Indian texts written between 1500 and 500 BC.
In Vedic India , mantras accompanied sacrificial rituals to invoke deities, purify space, and protect the community.
With the rise of the great spiritual traditions of India , mantras spread into Buddhism , then into Jainism and Tibetan Buddhism .
From this comes the famous Om Mani Padme Hum associated with the bodhisattva of compassion Avalokiteśvara . In this tradition, the recitation of mantras is a means of purifying the mind, awakening compassion and harmonizing the environment .
The principle of sound repetition is not unique to India. It is found in Christian prayers , such as the Rosary, or in the Sufi dhikr of Islam, rhythmic invocations that keep the heart in remembrance of God.
It is also found in shamanic incantations , practiced in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
These sacred chants , often accompanied by drums or rattles , use repetition to alter the state of consciousness and connect with the spirit world . They also direct energy toward healing , purification , or protection .
These rituals activate areas of the brain linked to emotions and can induce trance states comparable to those observed in other forms of sound meditation6.
All these practices are based on the same idea: sound repetition acts both on the inner state and on the invisible forces that pass through places and beings.
In the Himalayas, Tibetan bowls are part of this vibrational logic. Their harmonic sounds, composed of multiple frequencies, create an acoustic field that envelops the body and space.
Used in Buddhist rituals and meditation, they promote concentration , calm the mind and contribute to the energetic purification of places and people .
Traditionally, a mantra is recited 108 times using a mala , a necklace of 108 beads similar to the Christian rosary. The number 108 holds a sacred place in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is associated with the 108 names of Shiva or Vishnu , but also with the 108 human desires that monks seek to overcome on their path to liberation.
In Japan, the Joya no Kane ritual marks the beginning of each New Year. In Buddhist temples, bells are rung 108 times , each representing a desire or illusion to be left behind.
This sound cycle accompanies the purification of the heart and mind , and symbolically opens the way to a new year freed from the weight of attachments.
This number is also associated with ancient astronomical observations: the average distance between the Earth and the Sun is about 108 times the diameter of the Sun, just as the Earth–Moon distance is close to 108 times the diameter of the Moon.
This correspondence reinforces the idea of a cosmic link and explains why this number has been invested with such symbolic significance.
For daily practice, it is not necessary to recite a mantra 108 times. Five to ten minutes is enough to feel its effects, provided you place a clear intention : it is this intention that gives each word its vibratory scope.
